Public hearing to amend Town Code relating to flood damage The Oyster Bay Town Board will discuss a proposed amendment to Town Code relating to Flood Damage Prevention at the Tues., June 30, 7 p.m. Town Board meeting, according to Town Supervisor John Venditto. "This proposed amendment to Chapter 121, which is entitled Flood Damage Prevention, relates to the Enforcement of Floodplain Development Regulations," Supervisor Venditto stated. "This amendment is necessary to be in compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program, which affords those home-owners living in high-risk flood zones to purchase lost cost insurance from the federal government." The proposed legislation provides for stricter building requirements in very high-risk flood and wave velocity zones. The proposed legislation also incorporates the latest flood zone maps prepared for the Town of Oyster Bay. Additionally, the proposed legislation will vest the Town Zoning Board of Appeals with the power to grant variances from the provisions of the new building requirements. Thispower previously rested with the Town Board. The meeting will be held in the hearing room of Town Hall East, 54 Audrey Ave., Oyster Bay. Beginning at 7 p.m., the regular Town calendar, including the above-mentioned hearing, will be called. Following the regular Town business, the Town Board will be available to listen to public comment on any matter. |
