A local Soldier thanks Unqua students
      Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth Johnston paid a special visit to Unqua Elementary School in Massapequa. Johnston connected with third-grade classes who had collected various snacks and toiletries during their second-grade year, which they sent overseas to Afghanistan to lift the spirits of him and his troops.

Edward Nabet retires from the Massapequa Water District
      Edward Nabet retired from the Massapequa Water District after 18 years of service to the people of the District. Nassau County Legislator Peter J. Schmitt was on hand to present a special Legislative Citation which proclaimed Dec. 9 as “Edward Nabet Day” in Nassau County.

McKenna Elementary School special assembly honoring Veteran’s Day
      McKenna Elementary School in Massapequa Park held a special assembly honoring Veterans Day. Members of the sixth-grade class did short readings explaining the importance of the day and its significance to all Americans. Nassau County Legislator Peter J. Schmitt joined the students for this tribute to our veterans.

St. William the Abbot students perform at Avery Fisher Hall
      Students from St. William the Abbot School (SWS), Seaford joined voices with the renowned Cross Boarder Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. St. William the Abbot School had the honor of representing all of Long Island at this event!

Grace Day School 6th Graders hold Dress for a Vet Day fundraiser
      Massapequa’s Grace Day School sixth graders display their “red, white and blue” colors on Grace’s annual Dress for a Vet day held each year to raise money for veteran outreach projects.

Amity Women’s club meets in January
      The Amityville Women’s Club held its January meet ing Tues., Jan. 12 at the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club. Grace was said by Barbara Lozier and Melanie Doerner led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance. This was a business meeting. Each committee head gave a progress report on events that have taken place thus far.
