A local Soldier thanks Unqua students
Chief Warrant Officer Kenneth Johnston paid a special visit to Unqua Elementary School in Massapequa. Johnston connected with third-grade classes who had collected various snacks and toiletries during their second-grade year, which they sent overseas to Afghanistan to lift the spirits of him and his troops. Thecollection was coordinated by teacher CarolAnn Habeeb-Kiel, and included all second-grade classes.
During his visit with the excited Unqua students, who are now in third grade, Chief Warrant Officer Johnston presented a slide show of his work in Afghanistan. He shared with students that his job was to make sure children their age could have a safe environment in which to attend school, instead of being forced to work. He also presented Unqua students with a plaque; it contains an American flag that he flew in various locations in Af- ghanistan in honor of Unqua Elementary School, and a thank-you for the kindness and generosity they displayed towards the American soldiers in Afghanistan.
