Massapequa Wrestling, Inc. holds championship event


The second annual Friday Night Lights Takedown Championships was another successful event with 305 wrestlers participating in an exciting atmosphere under the lights in a beautiful evening. Thetournament is in its the second year and it is quick­ly becoming quite an event for wrestlers from all over the tri-state area from 10 years old to men in their 50s. The program serves three purposes, said organiz­ers. One is to afford kids the opportunity to have fun while wrestling, playing Frisbee , soccer and enjoy­ing ®music. Second is to reinforce the relationships of former wrestlers and parents as well as the alumni from these programs. Thefinal purpose of the pro­gram is to provide education in the important aspect healthy competition. The event is a benefit conducted by the Friends of Massapequa Wrestling Inc. Funds raise help send Massapequa wrestlers to summer camp, off-season tournaments and to help defray the school district’s cost of equipment for the team.
