MHS students to once again preschool program for Massapequa residents
Posted, Thurs., Nov. 18- Massapequa High School’s Family and Consumer Science Department, in conjunction with its Child Study course, will once again sponsor a preschool program for district residents.
High school students enrolled in the Child Study course have successfully completed the Parenting and Child Development course and are now ready for a hands-on approach to learning, according to Anna Gregg, child study director for the district.
“The students will plan, prepare, and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students,” she said.
Preschool will begin March 8, 2011 and continue for about 11 weeks. There are two sessions — Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Fridays — each from 9:55 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Children must attend both days of the session chosen. A donation of $60 per child to help defray expenses is encouraged.
To be eligible, children must be between the ages of three, as of March 1, 2011, and five, but not attending kindergarten, and toilet trained. Enrollment in the popular program is limited to 18 children per session and selection will be by lottery drawing with Massapequa residents and previous students receiving priority.
Applications will be available in the General Office of Massapequa High School from November 22 to December 22, 2010, and can be picked up between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Applications may also be downloaded from the Massapequa School District web site using the link for the Child Study Application (www.msd.k12.ny.us). Hard copies of completed applications must be returned to the General Office at Massapequa High School by Monday, January 4, 2011. Acceptance notifications will be mailed by February 1, 2011.
