NCPD Marine Unit saves two boaters
The Marine Bureau reports the rescue of two people in Massapequa on Saturday May 27, 2011 at 11:30 PM.
According to police a male and his 6 year old son were stranded in a 16 foot boat on a sand bar near Great Island Channel. Marine Bureau responded, but was unable to get close to the vessel. A Nassau County Police helicopter from the Aviation Unit responded to the scene and was able to land in a near by marsh.
The two boaters were then airlifted to Wantagh Park where they were taken home by a patrol car. There were no injuries reported. The boat was left at the scene and will be recovered at a later time.
Police declined to identify the two boaters.
