Mr Mignone, you and many

Mr Mignone, you and many politicians have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to gun ownership or control policies. As a member of the American Criminalists Association & several LE associations, a former firearms instructor & a former associate in law enforcement, the stats don't not support your views at all. Using federal & state homicide stats there was 80,000 homicdes committed last year; 8-10thousand were from all types of firearms, less than 150 were from any type of long gun, including shotguns & hunting rifles & of that probably less than 15 were committed with any assault style firearm. Most of those assault style firearm were illegally obtained or illegally modified. Also most of the firearm based homicides were also perpertrated by illegal firearms. My associatio along with the National Criminalist Association & many of the members of the Psychologists & Psychiatrists Association state no gun control law will stop any type of mass killing incidents; not even if you take all the guns away. Why? These incidents are rare, less than 1/100th of 1% of any firearm homicide. Second point governement & law enforcement are incapable of enforcing & implementing any law properly. The 1993 Colin Fergurson incident of the Long Island Railroad Garden City, NY is a classic example. He should have never had possession of the Ruger handgun. It was bought somewhat leagally in California, which at the time had the strictist gun control laws in the nation. The gun dealer followed state & federal procedures(took valid state ID, Customer filled out fed 4473 form & dealer filed weekly report, & sent information to SJPD for 15 day waiting period & background check) however San Jose Police Department never did a proper background check. Fergurson had forged ID & SJPD would have found out he lived in Brooklyn, NY not California. On top of that there were 2 off duty LEOs on & in the train car when the incident occurred. Both woman got up & went to the next car. There took an oath "To Protect & Serve" & when crimes are committed there is no such thing as off duty. They should have been prosecuted but it was covered up. Last point prior to the 1968 gun controllaw, our nations first & 2 years after the 1966 Charles Whittman incident in Austin TX, gun violence was much less tahn today. Why? Pror to 1975 most high schools around the country taught gun safety & riflery, just like we instruct driver safety today. That provided education on respect, handling & proper use time of firearms. Today we preach fear, contempt & major curiosity of guns in various forms. Today only the CMP (Civilian Marksman Program) carries on that tradition. Also there is a government sponsored/NRA program for Law Enforcement Officers (retired or not), active & non-active military & certain civilian gun sponsored groups to compete with assault style weapons (The 3 & 4 gun Shoots). This is to promote better proficiency among professials, a stress releiver, especially those with various types of PTSD conditions & promotes interest in joining LE or military life. It also removes curiosty to those wanting to see what military weaponry can do, but under a lawful controlled event. Yes firearm education & invovlement reduces gun crimes from law bidding citizens. Last incident reminder The North Hills CA bank roberry incident of 1997, it was civilians & local gun dealers giving law enforcement semiautomatic assault style weapons to make them on par with those 2 well planned, well prepared & well armed perpetrators.
