Hot Laps

by Michael Perricone

Two weeks before Riverhead Raceway opens for practice, we have already learned something about the 2014 Riverhead Raceway season. Jeff Goodale will strap into his new modified for the new season. He relayed that he will bring out the legend car in 2014 only sporadically in 2014. Brendon Brock, the 2013 Riverhead and mountain (pa) legend champion will run a legend at Riverhead but also a late model down south.

On “ice breaker” weekend, Riverhead Raceway staged the first of their inspection days. The first drivers to be cleared in safety inspection for 2014 included Ken Alfano, Chris Laspisa and Kevin Metzger in late models. Kyle Soper and newcomer Kurt Kreiger also went through the inspection process in the legend division.

Drivers associated with Riverhead Raceway also had great luck during “ice breaker” weekend. Roger Turbush won the first truck race. Justin Bonsignore, the 2011 Riverhead Raceway modified champion, won the “ice breaker” for owner Kenneth Massa and crew. Timmy (the Natural) Solomito was fourth, Eric Goodale was fifth, while Ken Heagy was 12th and Donnie Lia was 21st.

#46 Jeff Goodale will move from the legends to the modified division for 2014 at Riverhead Raceway. #46 Jeff Goodale will move from the legends to the modified division for 2014 at Riverhead Raceway. The Riverhead Raceway family also was saddened to hear that one of its drivers, Jarrod Hayes, suddenly lost his dad. Condolences are sent to the entire Hayes family.
