Hot Laps

by Michael Perricone

Rain aborted and/ or shortened all racing activity over last weekend.

At Riverhead Raceway, rain delayed what would have been a five-hour session to approximately two, according to reports. For the second week in a row a car met the wall when Chris Lescenski lost control of his car making what he admitted was “a rookie mistake.”

Last week it was Bill “the racing, grampa” Wegmann, Sr. Others who reportedly had a productive session were Mike Van Houton in his legend. As usual the legends probably had the best turnout of all divisions even with the questionable weather.

While rain cancelled the wall (NJ) stadium card, Staford (Conn.) Speedway managed to run their “spring sizzler.” Islip’s Timmy Solomito took a new Wayne Anderson owned Eastport feeds-sponsored Modified to an eigth-place finish.

FROM THE PITS: Correction from last week, Tommy, 18, and Chris, 23, are the sons of Audrey Sanchez; Katlyn, 26, is the daughter of the late Julie Overton and, Rylee, 10, is the son of Kenny Alfano. The connection of parents to their children was unclear to some in last week’s column.
