Memorial Day ceremonies held today at Towers of Freedom


A moving tribute to the memory of those who gave their lives in defense of their country and their communities took place this morning at the Towers of Freedom Military monument in Massapequa. Honored guests included the family of Brian Moore, the New York City Police Detective who was killed in the line of duty May 6. He was from Massapequa. 


Founders Thomas Smith, NYPD and Frank Haskell  FDNY presented flags to the families of those who lost loved ones. 


Speakers included NYS Sen. Michael Venditto, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto and Kevin Haskell who read the Towers of Freedom Mission Statement. Rev. Kenneth M. Zach of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Massapequa gave the invocation.


There was Music by the Tara Pipes and Drums and IBEW 25 Pipes and Drums, and speakers including U.S. Army Lt. Col. David Haskell and FDNY Firefighter Ken Haskell.


 A tolling of the bells recognized those first responders and civilians who lost their lives on 9/11 as well as those who died due to 9/11 related illnesses and military personnel lost in the War on Terror.
