Locals remember those who served

Members of AMVETS Massapequa were among those who attended an Armed Forces recognition day hosted by Suffolk County recently to honor these brave men and women who served. A host veterans organizations and public officials gathered to pay tribute. and took part in the ceremonies honoring our service men and whome who defend our freedoms.

 In addition to the Massapequa AMVETS, The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 11, and the Central LI Chapter of Korean War Veterans Association posted the colors, and afterwards S.C. Leg. Tom Barraga, a Marine Veteran, said the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Keynote speaker of the event was Eric Hesse who is currently the Director of the NYS Division of Veterans Affairs, and is a retired US Army Colonel. Hesse spoke about the importance of taking care of veterans after they return home, and the sacrifices they have made to keep our country safe.
