MSD bond vote passes

On Jan. 23, voters in the Massapequa School District approved two propositions for a bond referendum. Proposition #1 was approved 821 to 549, and Proposition #2 was approved 804 to 564.

The board of education and administration would like to thank all community residents who voted on the bond referendum.

“On behalf of the Board of Education and administration, we are grateful to the Massapequa community for their continued support of our students and our schools,” said Superintendent of Schools Lucille F. Iconis. “The vote of confidence and support the community has shown us is truly appreciated. It is through our strong school-community partnership that Massapequa Public Schools continues to provide a high-quality educational experience and safe, secure facilities for our children.”

The community-approved bond will allow the district to update aging classroom spaces at all six elementary schools and Berner Middle School; renovate bathroom facilities at the elementary school, middle school and Massapequa High School’s Ames Campus; and upgrade the grass practice field at Berner to a turf field. Additionally, through the successful passage of Proposition #2, the district will install air conditioners in classrooms districtwide.
