MHS student receives top music honors
On March 1st through March 4th, Anjanette Mannina, accompanied by Dr. David Gaines, as her chaperone, attended the Music Educators National Conference All-Eastern Division convention in Pittsburgh, Pa. It is a high honor to be selected for the All-Eastern Conference. The selection process began last May when Anjanette auditioned for the New York State School Music Association All State Convention. During the selection process for All-State, Anjanette was ranked as one of the top three flute players in NY State. With this high ranking, she was recommended and selected to the All-Eastern Band. The All-Eastern Band, Chorus, Jazz Ensemble, and Orchestra are comprised of the most talented students in 11 northeast states and Washington, D.C. While in Pittsburgh, Anjanette spent four days in rehearsal for the March 4th concert. Her All-Eastern conductor, Anthony Maiello from George Mason University, is widely regarded as one of the finest band conductors working today. Anjanette was recently honored by Mr. Jim Maloney, principal of Massapequa High School and the Massapequa Board of Education.
