The second annual Friday Night Lights Takedown Championships was another successful event with 305 wrestlers participating in an exciting atmosphere under the lights in a beautiful evening. Thetournament is in its the second year and it is quickly becoming quite an event for wrestlers from all over the tri-state area from 10 years old to men in their 50s. The program serves three purposes, said organizers. One is to afford kids the opportunity to have fun while wrestling, playing Frisbee , soccer and enjoying ®music. Second is to reinforce the relationships of former wrestlers and parents as well as the alumni from these programs. Thefinal purpose of the program is to provide education in the important aspect healthy competition. The event is a benefit conducted by the Friends of Massapequa Wrestling Inc. Funds raise help send Massapequa wrestlers to summer camp, off-season tournaments and to help defray the school district’s cost of equipment for the team.
